2011 Try Boro Kids Duathlon

For the kid who loves to bike and run, but that may not want to swim, this event gave kids the opportunity to try out a race that was challenging and unique.  Hosted by the Avenue Murfreesboro, the junior kids (ages 7 to 10) ran 0.65 miles to a transition area and then rode their bikes around their campus for 3.5 miles and finished the race with the same 0.65 mile run.  Senior kids (ages 11 to 14) ran 0.65 miles, biked 7 miles, and then ran 1.25 miles.

The Junior race was paced by two girls that were determined to finish strong,  Gracie Pendleton (24:33.3) and Ainsley Vendur (26:18.9).  As they charged through the finish, several other kids finished in a flurry to recieve their finisher medals.

2011 Try Boro Kids 2.5K/5K Run

The Try Boro Kids 2.5K/5K Run was held for the first time on June 3, 2011.  It offered kids the chance to race in two different distances around the beautiful landscape of Gateway Island.  The first race was a 2.5K or 1.55 mile run, which had kids from 6 to 14 years old.  The kids were seperated into corrals based on age and gender and started at sperate times to ensure safety.  The kids then took off on the quest for a fast time on a steamy but comfortable Summer night.

Off fast were severals girls and boys with the top finisher coming across in 10:10.3, which was Garrett Coleman.  He was quickly followed by Rachel Massaro and Caroline Young, which both finished under 11 minutes.  (See the bottom of this entry for the award winners.)

For a list of all runners, click here.

The 5K was for the truly ambitious runner.  As the kids from the 2.5K race darted through the finish line and received a finisher medal and smoothie from Smoothie King, the 5K runners lined up based on age and gender.  When the gun went off, the kids took off on their journey around the pond, past the spectators, and through 2 water stations.  First through the finish line was Eli Leskinen with a blistering 19:31.1.  First for the girls was Kristen Fuller at 22:46.8.  Below is the award winners for each age group and gender.

2009 Try Boro Kids Triathlon

August 22, 2009
The race is now over, but the memories that each child and parent created will last forever.  Over 170 kids swam, biked, and ran their hearts out to on a glorious day. Here is a recap of the day's events.
Friday, August 21, 2009
With plenty of volunteers working to create the course, line the run, and drop off supplies, athletes and their families came to the outdoor pool at Sports*Com to pickup their packet and goodie bag for race day. Inside their packet was their bib number, safety pins, a helmet sticker, a help sheet, and their USAT form. The goodies bag had plenty of coupons, gift certificates, and other fun items, as well as their race t-shirt. Over 100 of the athletes came to early packet pickup, which made the next morning's pickups extremely manageable. Thanks to all of the parents for coming the day before the race.
Later on Friday night, a triathlon clinic was given to help kids understand the right thing to do for transition and for the swim. Many kids stayed to attend the clinic and were now ready for the
next morning.
