Race Course Descriptions

Junior Course Description

For Ages 7 - 10 yrs. old (as of 12/31/2010)

100 yard swim, 2.4 mile bike,0.5 mile run

Note: Sports*Com's pool is brand new and there are a few changes compared to last year.  The depth of the water is now 4 feet.

Swim (100 yards or 4 laps):

The Swim is 100 yards and will be an interval start, which means each child will start individually.  Each swimmer will "snake" through the pool width wise (25 yards) for 4 times.  No child will swim more than 25 yards before reaching the wall.  This will be less intimidating for kids that do not consider themselves avid swimmers and encourage them to participate.  The 4 laps will be in water that is from 4 feet 6 inches to 4 feet.

Bike (2.4 miles):

The bike route will be on the Sports*Com campus and will not be on any main streets, which makes this a very safe kids triathlon.  The loop is 2.4 miles, which goes around the McKight and StarPlex fields and turns around in the parking lot near the old soccer fields near the airport.  Once they turn around they continue back to the same way that they came until they get to the transition area for the run.  To view a larger view of the map, please click here.

Run (0.5 miles):

The run route will take your young triathlete through the well marked grass near the StarPlex baseball fields and then through the middle of the fields with a turnaround.  The junior course will finish near the SportsCom pavillion where they will receive their medals, something to eat, and any other prizes.  The finish will also be fan friendly. Senior Course Description

For Ages 11 - 14 yrs. old (as of 12/31/2010)

200 yard swim, 4.8 mile bike,1 mile run

Swim (200 yards or 8 laps):

The Swim is 200 yards and will be an interval start, which means each child will start individually.  Each swimmer will "snake" through the pool width wise (25 yards) for 8 times.  No child will swim more than 25 yards before reaching the wall.  This will be less intimidating for kids that do not consider themselves avid swimmers and encourage them to participate.  The 4 laps will be in water that is 4 feet 6 inches to 4 feet.

Bike (4.8 miles):

The bike route will be on the Sports*Com campus and will not be on any main streets, which makes this a very safe kids triathlon.  It is the same as the Junior Course, but it will include a second loop.  The loop is 2.4 miles, which goes around the McKight and StarPlex fields and turns around in the parking lot near the old soccer fields near the airport.  Once they turn around they continue back to the same way that they came until they get near the transition area.  For the first loop, they will be asked to stop and be marked for the first loop and then proceed for a second loop around.  To view a larger view of the map, please click here.

Run (1 mile):

The Senior 1 mile Run goes around the McNight softball fields on the soft and even grass.  After going around the softball fields, there is an even flat stretch which then traces around and through the Star Plex baseball fields to complete the 1 mile loop.  The Senior course finishes at the same spot as the Junior course which is near the SportsCom pavillion where they will receive their medals, something to eat, and any other prizes.  The finish will also be fan friendly.
