Over 70 kids at 1st Triathlon Clinic

The first Triathlon Clinic was a huge success with over 70 kids in attendance.

Kids were able to swim and learn proper transition technique and ask questions about the course and what to bring for race day.

We will have one more Triathlon Clinic the night before the race:

August 21st from 7:30PM - 8:15PM at the Sports*Com outdoor pool area (during packet pickup)

We will be working on long distance swimming, how to prepare and perform a transition, and proper bike and run technique.

Race Day Do's and Don'ts

Here are some helpful Do's and Don'ts for Saturday's Events

Do's and Don'ts:

  • DO wear your helmet during the bike portion with your helmet sticker and chin strap secured.

  • DO Make sure to come early (6AM) and be prepared prior to the start time

  • DO NOT eat junk food that morning or the day before

  • DO drink a lot of water (not cola) the day before, but DO NOT drink a lot (jugs of Gatorade) right before the race.  If you are hydrated from the day before and drink a glass of water that morning - you will be fine.

  • DO wear your bib number during the bike and run portion and DO have it in front during the run.  Also, make sure to smile for the camera, we will be taking your picture.

  • DO NOT ride side by side during the bike portion.  This is very dangerous and it is against USAT rules.

  • DO thank your volunteers.  We will have almost as many volunteers as athletes, which will make for a great event.

  • DO NOT provide any outside assistance to athletes (this pertains to parents).  A triathlon is an individual sport and outside assistance is not prohibited.  Therefore, no parents, friends, or spectators will be allowed on the course.  (If a child is hurt or need assistance, we gladly will accept your help, this pertains more to gaining an advantage.)

  • DO smile at ALL times.  This is a big accomplishment and each child, parents, grandparent, sibling, and of course your Try Boro Race Crew is very proud of each of our participants.  Finishing is the greatest reward.

  • DO NOT go into the transition area after you finish until after it has been deemed safe by our race crew.  (Kids may still be on the race course.)

  • DO stay after you finish.  We are handing out prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd and we will randomly select bib numbers for door prizes.

  • DO get something to eat.  We will have PB&J, cookies, food from Great Harvest, samples from Smoothie King, and treats from Sassy Veg.

Do expect to have a good time.

Woody Wood from 107.5 The River our Emcee

The emcee for the Inaugural Try Boro Kids Triathlon was Woody Wood from the Woody and Jim morning show on 107.5 The River.  He did a fantastic job keeping things going throughout the day and announcing winners and he will be back for 2010.
